Social Justice

Throughout the city’s history, Cincinnati’s Jewish community has fought hate and discrimination and worked to create opportunities for everyone. Black and Jewish Cincinnatians marched side by side during the Civil Rights movement. Today, Jews work collaboratively with other organizations and faith communities to oppose antisemitism, racism, and other issues facing Cincinnati at large.

Civil Rights

In March 1965, more than 5,000 Cincinnatians marched to support Civil Rights legislation and protest the treatment of Selma, Alabama’s African American community. Members of the Jewish community, including clergy and lay leaders such as Dick Weiland, participated alongside Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth and other leaders of the Black community in Cincinnati.
